Scanning British Friesian cows reveals a high incidence of twins
31 Oct 2012I scanned a herd of British Friesian cows. We identified 10 sets of twins compared with only 2 sets in the same herd the previous year. This incidence of twins would be inordinately high for a British Friesian type cow. The client commented that dairy herd management is extremely difficult this year. This is associated with wet weather and a river flooding large sections of his farm which created a platform. There was an inability to access a section of his farm on the far side of the river. This stress imposed on cows maybe associated with a high multiple ovulation rates.
