Early puberty in speckled park

On a farm visit in Co. Cork, where a herd of Speckled Park beef cattle were presented for scanning. This is a composite breed of Angus, Shorthorn, and old English White. The client presented weanling heifers which were born 7 to 8 months ago, as he was afraid that some of them could be bred by the weanling bulls. All of the heifers were cycling, which is a noted feature of early puberty within the breed. However, 1 heifer was 2 months pregnant. The client was delighted with the information as he did not want to sell the heifers with the risk that some were in calf.
