TIPS FOR THE MONTH OF SEPTEMBER
.Weanling heifers need to be gaining weight to achieve breeding size next Spring. Grass quality is not sufficient. Concentrate supplementation with 18 to 20% C.P.
.Condition score your cows. Dry off in-calf cows which are BCS of 2.0 and feed them to gain BCS.
.Identify empty cows by scanning and plan on culling strategy.
.Plan on drying cows off early if feed stocks light are for the Winter.
.Address lameness. Roadways are poor because of the wet summer.
.Plan some time off. Many farmers have not taken a break this summer.
.Ensure cows are treated for worms, stomach and liver fluke if warranted and at the correct stages of the production cycle.
