Assessing Fertility in a Stock Bull
Visited a dairy farmer in County Waterford, this client presented 40 heifers who were exposed to a stock bull for 6 weeks. The heifers were on an outside farm and observed by the clients father. No activity was observed from either the stock bull or the maiden heifers. He wanted to introduce the stock bull to the dairy herd and stop A.I. but he was worried about fertility. We confirmed 16 heifers were in a pre-pubertal stage and not fit for bulling. In conclusion scanning maiden heifers provides you with an assessment of bull fertility as well as reproductive assessment in heifers.
