TIPS FOR THE MONTH OF OCTOBER 2012

1.Freshly calved autumn cows need diets which do not impair dry matter intakes.  Grazed grass will result in excessive  fluctuations in    DMI and milk production.

 2. Cows are more efficient in live weight gain in late lactation than similar dry cow.  Therefore, feed thin cows now while pregnant until 200 to 220 days pregnant.

 3. Aim to achieve a BCS of 3.0 at dry off and maintain same until cows calve.

4. Check your herd now for liver and stomach fluke infestation.

5. Vaccination programme requirements need to be evaluated and implemented now.
