The use of maize in an anaerobic digester in Co. Antrim

On farm visits in Co. Antrim the discussion centred on the amount of land required to support an anaerobic digester. The quality of maize produced in this part of the country is very poor, relative to that in Germany. The amount used in the anaerobic digester was 4 times greater than that produced. They now have to ship beet from over 100 miles away to feed the digester. This dramatically increases the carbon footprint associated with energy production.
