Swollen hocks in dairy cows may be associated with Micro toxins in Diets

On farm visits in County Armagh & County Down, a noted feature was the number of cows with swollen hocks.  This cannot all be explained by injuries associated with housing alone.  It has been shown from published literature that micro toxin combinations of diets can result in swollen hocks in cows.  These swollen hocks are associated with impaired reproductive performance with consequent negative effect on fertility.  There are micro toxin binders on the market; one of which is by Devenish Nutrition under the brand name “Devicare”.  This micro toxin binder has been shown to be number 2 in the top 20 micro toxin binders evaluated independently.
