Scanning heifers destined for export to Russia
02 Aug 2012Visited a client outside Milford, Co. Cork who presented a dairy herd plus maiden heifers which had been ai’d and were running with a stock bull. He planned to export these heifers as part of a consignment to Russia. Criteria for supplying these heifers for export are, one where the herd has to be free from T.B. for the past three years. The dams have to be plus 500kgs in milk and the heifers have to be scanned at least 35 days pregnant. The market in Russia for these heifers has arisen because a previous consignment of stock from America only survived 1.3 lactation’s in their production system.
