Scanning cows reveals importance of identifying twins
A client rang me from Co. Clare to thank me for identifying a cow that was carrying twins. He did not expect the cow to have twins. The cow had one calf but he checked the cow again on the basis of the information I had given him. The cow had a second calf in her. The calf was coming backwards and she would not have had the calf on her own. He was very grateful for the fact that we had identified this cow carrying twins. I warned him however that it was important that any cow carrying twins need to be identified using ultrasonography prior to 110 days of pregnancy as it is very difficult to identify those cows carrying twins beyond this stage.
